HER-STORY

About NY Assembly Member Stefani L. Zinerman

Stefani L. Zinerman is an elected Assembly member representing the historic and vibrant neighborhoods of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights in the 56th District. She is a proud member of the New York State Assembly legislature and has worked diligently to enact a budget and legislation that speaks to her constituents' values, needs, and concerns. Her primary focus is to provide resources and opportunities for the residents, nonprofits, and small businesses in her district.

During her first legislative session, Assembly Member Zinerman was instrumental in securing foundation aid for New York City Public Schools after a 30-year fight. She helped to fund gun violence prevention programs and provided COVID-19 pandemic relief to homeowners, renters, and small business owners. Additionally, she assisted in the passage of such ground-breaking legislation as ending the prohibition on adult-use marijuana, protecting exploited workers from wage theft, and studying reparation for people of African descent.

As the Chair of the Committee on Emerging Workforce, she believes intentional investments in education and training will ensure business ownership opportunities, long-term employment, and economic stability for her district’s youth, returning citizens, and retirees. A staunch advocate for elder justice, she champions elder parole and the implementation of age-friendly policies that support the physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, vocational, and environmental wellness of older adults.

Assembly Member Zinerman is dedicated to preserving the rich legacy of arts, culture, and entrepreneurship in her district by convening a District 56 Arts and Culture Council to develop an international destination for tourism and economic development. Her desire to restore the people’s faith in government and her strong propensity for civic engagement also led her to create a Small Business Council and People with Special Needs Committee

to give diverse voices a seat at the decision-making table.

A self-described urban farmer, Assembly Member Zinerman has worked with local nonprofits to expand the number of food entrepreneurs, growers, and community chefs. She has invested in the creation of a Central Brooklyn Food Hub to ensure access to locally grown and affordable fresh food, jobs, and wealth creation.

In her spare time, she creates events that unite people and promotes pride and purpose in preserving our community.
