Justice & Public Safety
We must address the deadly abuse of power used by police nationally and globally. A laser-focused on protecting the residents of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights from domestic, community, and police violence is the priority.
Community engagement and training for residents interested in learning conflict resolution, de-escalation, and restorative justice techniques will promote safety in the 56th Assembly District.
Experience in Community/Police Relations
As a member of the 81st Precinct Council, Stefani worked with residents to demand police accountability for all district precincts, including the 77th and 79th.
While working at the New York City Council, she was instrumental in implementing the District 36 Safe Stop Program in collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office, Merchants, CBO’s and the NYPD to provide safe haven in commercial stores to anyone feeling unsafe while working, shopping, visiting or attending school in the district.
As a founding member of the Anti-bullying Partnership at Interfaith Medical Center, the initiative trained over 600 Mental Health First Aid workers to work in our public schools and with residents to avoid involving police in mental healthcare crises.
Since 2014, Stefani has led efforts to involve neighborhood youth in the planning and execution of National Night Out Against Crime, an annual community building event designed to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement.
